Acting for Film

The Artists Playground is currently scheduling the following classes:

The Acting for Film Gym w/ José Quiñones

Acting, like any other skill, is an ever learning experience. Likewise, improving said skill requires consistent practice. Our acting class is a weekly challenging workout in various aspects of the craft focused on natural/organic acting and working in front of the camera. These workouts are designed to keep you challenged while working with the best tools available. You will get to work on different aspects of the craft week after week. Each month culminates with a film shoot session where you get footage shot with film grade professional equipment.

  • Participate in multiple exercises and/or scenes each session.
  • Frequent on-camera work with footage promptly made available.
  • Exercises from the improv world that move you out of your head and into the moment.
  • An on-set film shoot with original material at the end of each month (footage that may work for your reel!)
  • Limited to 12 students per session.
  • Cost: $200/mo.

About José

Our class leader has been studying the art of acting and improv for almost 20 years. After graduating from KD Studios' School of Improv in 2005, he quickly shifted towards acting. With a permanent hunger for the art, he studied with Daniel Foster at Class Act Dallas, Del Shores, Steven Anderson and any other coach that would come to the metroplex. His hunger for Improv training remained present, taking him to study with Upright Citizens Brigade in New York, as well as Second City Chicago and two intensive stints at iO in Chicago (formerly Improv Olympic).

He co-founded The Artists Playground in 2012 with a desire to create original content and produce more opportunities for local actors to shine. He has since worked on just about every aspect of film production, from sound to editing, from writing to directing. He studied each of those facets in detail and earned a few awards in the process, all leading up to this class.

José is a firm believer that good acting requires challenging and consistent training. With his production and directing experience, and even more so his exposure to so many different instructors, he has put together the best of those training programs aiming to help actors hone in their craft, be challenged week after week and continue to refine their skills. As the name implies, he wants The Artists Playground to become a supportive home for actors to just come play.
